In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. I John 4:9,10
I. God’s love
A. In this was manifested the love of God toward us I John 4:9
B. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us I John 4:10
C. For God so loved the world John 3:16
D. But God commendeth his love toward us Romans 5:8
The Bible plainly says that God loves us and want to have a relationship with us.
II. Sent Jesus
A. Because that God sent his own begotten Son into the world I John 4:9
B. And sent his Son to be the propitiation I John 4:10
C. That he gave his only begotten Son John 3:16
D. Christ died for us Romans 5:8
God’s love sent Jesus to make a way for that relationship through his perfect life, sacrificial death, and his burial and resurrection.
III. For you
A. That we might live through him I John 4:9
B. For our sins I John 4:10
C. In that, while we were yet sinners Romans 5:8
D. That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life John 3:16
God’s love sent Jesus for you. But, why do we need Jesus? We need Jesus because our sin keeps us separated from God and must be punished. Jesus was the only one who could take that punishment for us, and he did it by dying on the cross in our place. Everyone who believes in Jesus as Savior has forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
IV. What should you do?
A. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. Acts 16:31
B. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:10
C. For by grace are ye saved through faith; it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8, 9
