While trying to wrack my brain for “only one-way” places, I realized that I can’t think of any place where there’s not an alternate route for getting there. Just take Hawaii for example. Hawaii is a group of islands over a thousand miles from any other land mass, but a person could get there by airplane, ship, submarine, and even parachute. I also thought of the moon, but there are multiple ways to get to, land on, and return from the moon. Of course I could put much more time into contemplating one-way places, but presently the only one I can think of is Heaven; and there’s only one way to get there. This is not a popular belief. It’s actually pretty controversial, exclusive, even seemingly rigid. But is it true? Is there only one way to Heaven?
Yes, it is absolutely true, but whether a person believes in the unchanging fact that there is only one way to Heaven depends on whether they also believe that the Bible is true. Faith that God’s Word is the source of the infallible truths about all things eternal life is necessary.
What does the Scripture say about the only way to Heaven? Jesus Christ himself said in John 14:6:
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Since Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, we do not have to find a way, come up with our own truth, or work for our eternal life. He is the way: Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection paved the way for any person to be made right with God by having their sins forgiven. He is the truth: Jesus’s birth, life, and crucifixion fulfilled hundreds of prophesies but most importantly it satisfied the payment necessary for our sins. He is the life: eternal life is only given to those who trust in Jesus alone to be their Savior.
There is a passage in the book of I John that states this truth very plainly.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. I John 5:11, 12
Does God really want us to be with him in Heaven? Yes! And Yes!
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. I John 4:9, 10
Why do we need Jesus to be the way? Jesus answers this question in John 3:19, 17, 18.
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
There are many other verses in the Bible that state these same truths, but nowhere is there ever mentioned another way, another truth, or another life besides through Jesus Christ.
Sadly, Satan as the master deceiver has crafted thousands of other paths for mankind to follow as they are searching to find, know, or be made right with God: the path of works, the path of humanism, the path of false religions, the path of delusion and denial… Never will he ever point to the one way: Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. Acts 16:31
Interestingly, there are over a dozen routes to the top of Mount Everest, at least two ways to the top of the Eiffel Tower, and probably ten different sets of directions to my house and yours; but there is only one way to Heaven – Jesus Christ.
